DENMARK CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY
GET STARTED ON GETTING SUPPORT
Start by getting a referral from your GP. If you are wanting support to manage any situation or condition that is troubling you, start by talking to your GP. If you want a referral specifically to Denmark Clinical Psychology, then print out the Information and Consent Sheet and ask your GP about a referral. Your GP will talk to you about a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) and they can make a referral using the referral form on the next page and directly emailing it. A MHTP will give you access to Medicare rebates. There is usually a waiting period of some months so if your issues are urgent, be sure to talk to your GP about supports you can access immediately.
When you have a referral. Your Denmark Clinical Psychology clinician will contact you to discuss next steps and to make an initial appointment. If you decide to go ahead, then you will be asked to read through an Information and Consent Form. You can print these out from the links on this page. You can complete them and bring them to your first session. Otherwise, they will be discussed and completed with your clinician when you first meet.

Your first session. We begin with a mental health assessment. This means telling your clinician details of the issues you are experiencing that are causing distress. You may also be asked to complete some diagnostic questionnaires either in hardcopy or online.

After your first session. Once you have met with your clinician, some suggested reading or viewing will be made available for you. This will help with understanding more about your condition, distress, or problem. You will also be asked to complete some paper or online assessments. This helps to make a very specific diagnosis so your clinical can talk to you about the best type of psychological treatments available.
Your second session. Your clinician will provide you with feedback from your assessment and a clear diagnosis and suggested treatment plan. You will be asked to think about what goals you’d like to set – what changes you’d like to make to your situation or life and how you would like to be feeling in life.
Treatment. Your treatment will then consist of a number of sessions that are structured and aimed to help you relieve distress, feel more balanced, and work toward the goals to making your life more balanced and satisfying.
